Cecil Beaton did a watercolor of the Conn. home of Eleanor Lambert. She was the originator – in 1940 – of the Best Dressed List, which she created to draw attention to American fashion. Cecil Beaton had a long and illustrious career with many facets. He was an author, illustrator, set and interior designer, and fashion photographer, as well as being a war correspondent. He became part of the smart set in England and was a sort-after guest and host. He wrote autobiographical pieces, such as the Unexpurgated Beaton” if you would like to know more about him.
This watercolor is typical of his style, which was light, bright and airy. Its been double matted and framed in a way that I think he would love. His signature is l.r.
